Local coverage
Windlesham sits just over the county line from Bracknell, which makes it one of our closest Surrey areas. We cover GU20: the village, Church Road, Kennel Lane, Updown Hill and the surrounding lanes, along with neighbouring Sunningdale, Bagshot and Lightwater, working for homeowners, estate and grounds managers, smallholders and commercial clients.
The character of the work here is set by plot size and trees. Windlesham has a lot of large, wooded gardens, long private drives and boundaries that run alongside lanes, paddocks and woodland rather than a neighbour's shed. Runs are long, they are often visible from the road, and they frequently pass through the root plates of mature pines, oaks and rhododendron that were established long before the fence existed.
The ground is Surrey Heath sand for the most part: light, free-draining and easy to dig, but far less willing to grip a post than clay. That is why post depth, hole diameter and the concrete collar matter so much on this side of the border; a Windlesham fence usually starts rocking before it starts rotting. Where conifer cover is dense, needle litter and permanent shade then attack the base of the timber as well.
Alongside domestic closeboard, panel and composite fencing we do a good deal of post-and-rail, estate-style fencing, screening and wooden or metal driveway and entrance gate work here. We do not fit automated or electric gates. Every job begins with a free site visit and a written quote, normally within 48 hours, with payment due on completion. Repairs start from £150 + VAT with a 1 year guarantee: new installations carry up to 5 years depending on style, and we hold £5,000,000 public liability insurance plus employers' liability cover.

GU20 and the surrounding Surrey Heath villages
Large detached houses in wooded grounds
Long perimeter runs mixing hedge, fence and gate, with mature pines and oaks on the line and gravel drives that a gate has to clear consistently as the surface moves.
Village-centre and period property
Older houses around Church Road and Updown Hill with brick walls meeting timber, picket and post-and-rail frontages, and boundaries that need to look right from the lane.
Post-war and modern housing
More regular plots on sandy ground where standard closeboard and panel work dominates, and where rocking posts are usually a bedding problem rather than rot.
Paddocks, smallholdings and equestrian land
Post-and-rail, stock fencing and field gates on land running towards the heath, where a boundary has a containment job to do and length is measured in tens of metres.

Why us here
Long runs through wooded, sandy ground are where experience shows. Robert and Sean Stephens have spent over 20 years fencing across Berkshire and Surrey, they quote each Windlesham job in person, and they build what was quoted, no handover to a crew who never saw the boundary or the trees along it.
The commercial side is unchanged from postcode to postcode: free site visit, written quote normally within 48 hours, payment due on the day of completion by card, bank transfer or cash. Repairs carry a 1 year guarantee, new fencing and decking up to 5 years depending on style, and we hold £5,000,000 public liability insurance and employers' liability cover.

Local conditions
Ground, weather, trees and the age of the boundary decide how long a fence lasts far more than the panel you pick off a shelf. These are the conditions we plan for in Windlesham.
Windlesham sits on the same free-draining sands as much of Surrey Heath. Digging is easy; holding a post is not. Under wind loading a post bedded to a standard depth can rock while the timber is still sound, so we use wider, deeper holes and shape the collar to shed water rather than trap it.
It also means that when the below-ground timber is intact, re-setting posts is often the economical repair. That gets checked before anyone quotes for replacing the run.
A large share of boundaries here pass through the root systems of pines, oaks and established rhododendron. Digging blind either harms the tree or produces a hole too shallow to work. We adjust post positions and bay widths around roots, and we keep the base of the run clear of the deep litter that otherwise holds moisture against timber all year.
On wooded plots, a fair amount of damage arrives from above. A limb through two bays stresses the posts and rails either side of the obvious break, so a straight panel swap leaves you with a repair that fails again in the next gale. We check the structure on both sides of any impact before quoting the fix.
Entrance gates here usually swing over gravel that moves, and boundaries step between drive, garden and paddock. Gates need a consistent gap and posts set deeper than run posts; long runs need setting out from a fresh string line rather than following the failed fence. Over forty or fifty metres, those two decisions are the difference between a boundary that looks deliberate and one that wanders.
Our process
Robert comes out at a time that suits you, walks the boundary, checks access for materials and spoil, and looks at ground conditions, clay, made-up ground, tree roots, services and levels all change what the job needs. Nothing is priced over the phone from guesswork.
You get a tailored written price, normally inside 48 hours of the visit and often sooner. It states the materials, the heights, the number of posts and boards, the expected duration and what is taken away. Payment is due on the day of completion.
Old materials are stripped out and removed, post positions are set off a string line, and holes are dug to depth rather than to whatever the ground allows. Getting this stage right is the difference between a fence that stays plumb and one that leans in two winters.
Posts are set and allowed to hold, gravel boards keep timber off the wet ground, and each bay is levelled and fixed as we go rather than corrected at the end. A standard domestic job is completed in one to two days.
We walk the finished line with you, check every fixing, gate swing and level, sweep the site and take the waste with us. Payment is due on the day of completion by card, bank transfer or cash; repairs carry a 1 year guarantee, new installations up to 5 years.
