Service overview
Fence repair is the work of saving a fence that still has life in it: replacing snapped or rotten posts, refixing or replacing broken panels and boards, resetting gravel boards, straightening leaning runs, re-hanging dropped gates and reinforcing sections after storm damage. Some jobs are an hour; some are a half-day.
The judgement matters more than the labour. Replacing three panels on a run whose posts are failing is money thrown away, and replacing a whole fence because two bays came down in a gale is money wasted too. On the site visit we tell you which of those you are looking at, in plain terms.
A repair has to be structurally sound or it simply moves the failure a metre along. Bracing a leaning post with a spur, replacing a post without dismantling a whole run, and matching board profiles so the repair does not read as a patch are all specific skills, and doing them in the wrong order can pull down bays that were standing fine.
We carry £5,000,000 public liability insurance and employers' liability cover, and repairs come with a 1 year workmanship guarantee stated up front.
What it costs to wait
Fence damage does not stabilise. A run that has lost its rigidity loads the remaining posts every time the wind blows.
A failed post transfers load onto its neighbours. Left through a winter, the £150 + VAT job becomes a partial replacement.
A fence that lands on a car, a passer-by, a pet or a neighbour's greenhouse becomes a claim. Making it safe is far cheaper than arguing about it.
A dropped gravel board or blown panel is an open boundary. It is usually discovered at the worst possible moment.
A slipped gravel board puts the bottom of good boards into contact with wet soil. Sound timber then starts rotting for no reason.
Our process
We look at the whole run, not just the obvious damage; posts pushed for movement, bases checked for rot, gate swing and gravel boards inspected. You are told whether this is a repair, a partial replacement, or a fence at the end of its life.
You get the repair priced in writing, normally within 48 hours and often sooner. Repairs start from £150 + VAT. Where a repair genuinely is not worth the money, we say so and price the alternative alongside it.
Loose panels and unstable sections are made safe first, then the failed posts, boards or gravel boards are removed without disturbing the bays that are still sound.
Posts are reset to depth in concrete, gravel boards refitted clear of the soil, panels and boards matched to the existing run, and gates re-hung square so they latch and swing without dragging.
We push and load the repaired section, check gate operation, sweep the site and take the broken materials with us. Repairs carry a 1 year workmanship guarantee. Payment is due on completion by card, bank transfer or cash.
What you get
Repairs from £150 + VAT. Where a fence has years left, saving it is the cheapest correct answer and we will tell you when that is the case.
We are local and out in Bracknell every day, which is why short-notice repairs are frequently possible; one Checkatrade customer's repair was fitted in the same week they asked.
Most repairs are completed in a single visit, so pets, children and access are sorted the day we are there.
Every repair carries a 1 year workmanship guarantee, backed by £5m public liability and employers' liability cover.
We repair what is sound and replace only what has failed, rather than quoting a whole new fence by default.
Broken panels, snapped posts and old concrete go with us, no skip to arrange and no pile left on the drive.
Detail that matters
Most fence failures fall into a handful of patterns. These are the ones we deal with weekly.
There is a point where repairing costs more over three years than replacing costs once. The signals are consistent: more than a third of the posts moving, soft timber along the whole base rather than in patches, panels that crumble when handled, or a run that has been patched repeatedly already.
In those cases we will say so and price a replacement instead. You are not obliged to take it, and there is no pressure; payment on any work is due only when the job is finished.
After high winds, we get called to panels down, whole runs leaning and posts snapped at ground level. The immediate priority is making the boundary safe; the second is a written record of what failed and what it costs to put right, which is what most insurers want to see.
Our written quote sets out the damaged elements and the repair cost, and we hold £5,000,000 public liability insurance and employers' liability cover for the work itself.
For homeowners, repairs are about keeping a good fence going and keeping the garden secure. For landlords and letting agents, speed and a written guarantee matter more; a boundary made safe with a 1 year guarantee closes the issue. For commercial and agricultural clients, repair work is usually about keeping a long boundary serviceable without shutting down access.
We repair fencing across Bracknell, Wokingham, Camberley, Ascot, Reading, Bagshot, Addlestone, Chertsey and Windlesham.
